Engineering the Next Generation of V&V with AI Agents

A new paradigm for Computer-Aided Engineering — where intelligent agents automate verification, accelerate validation, and encode engineering knowledge as computable logic.

What I am building toward

Traditional CAE demands months of manual simulation setup, expert interpretation, and disconnected V&V documentation. AI agents can collapse this cycle — acting as tireless co-engineers that reason, simulate, verify, and report.

The vision is a world where an engineer describes what a product must do, and an intelligent agent system handles how to prove it does so — traceably, repeatably, and to industry standards.

Core Concept: Agentic V&V Pipeline

Each phase of the V&V lifecycle is owned by a specialized agent:

  • Requirements Agent — Reads specifications (SRS / CONOPS), extracts verifiable claims, and generates a V&V matrix automatically
  • CAE Setup Agent — Configures meshing, boundary conditions, and solver parameters guided by product-class heuristics and historical cases
  • Execution Agent — Runs simulation campaigns, monitors convergence, retries with adaptive strategies on anomaly detection
  • Verification Agent — Checks results against requirements with pass/fail judgments and evidence chains linked to requirement IDs
  • Validation Agent — Compares simulation output with physical test data using uncertainty quantification and correlation scoring
  • Report Agent — Generates traceable V&V documentation that is audit-ready and standard-compliant

Requirements for the Product

Multi-Agent Orchestration

Planner, executor, verifier, and reporter agents operate in coordinated pipelines with defined handoff contracts. Each agent has a scoped role and communicates through structured interfaces.

Real-Time Traceability

Every V&V action is logged with timestamp, agent ID, input artifacts, and decision rationale — providing a full audit trail from requirement to evidence.

CAE Solver Integration

Native API connectors for FEA and CFD solvers (Nastran, OpenFOAM, Ansys). The agent controls model execution directly, eliminating manual pre/post-processing.

Requirement Parsing

LLM-based extraction of testable requirements from natural language documents, mapped to structured V&V criteria in a machine-readable format.

Standards Compliance Engine

Rule sets for ISO 26262, DO-178C, MIL-STD, and ECSS — the agent enforces applicable clauses automatically during the V&V process.

Uncertainty Quantification

Probabilistic validation — agents model simulation uncertainty and compare with experimental scatter using Bayesian methods.

Human-in-the-Loop Gate

Critical decisions surface to the engineer for review. The agent proposes; the human approves. Override capability is available at every stage.

Auto-Report Generation

Structured V&V reports in PDF, Word, and DOORS format — machine-generated, human-reviewable, and certification-ready.
